It’s here!

5 minute read

What’s here? You may recall my early blog posts (like this one, and this one) on our new responsive email editor. Well – we are now at the finish and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on.

Its here

So, what can you expect?

Firstly a significantly different approach to creating emails. Say goodbye to templates. Don’t worry, you can still use templates if you wish – in fact templates, your own that is, are still a central part of how to be consistent and efficient, but the difference is that you now have the ability to create your own – you’re no longer limited by those pre-built in the library. Components are the underlying technology that allows you to create layout structure freely. Components are simply blocks of content, like text and graphics – they are the building blocks of your design. To create structure you simply select the type of component that you want for any given section of your email and drag and drop it into your layout. You can mix and match components and move and copy them as you wish. Essentially you are in complete control of how each section will look and behave.

With your structure in place you’ll want to set your style. Themes is another new creation concept which is designed to help you be efficient and consistent. You can select a default theme, but most will want to customise things like background and section colours, text styles and colours, headings and links. Once set, simply recall your theme and everything will be taken care of – no more worries about consistency. You can set different themes for different content sections too – whatever you need to define your brand style.

Adding your text and graphics is simple too. Hurrah! Text can now be cut and pasted directly from any source (no more worries about format stripping from Microsoft Word or web sites). There are all the normal text formatting options inside the editor and of course your theme will also help keep everything looking consistent. Adding graphics is equally simply. Upload your images into your library and use the editing tools to manipulate them as you need. Then just drop them into the graphical content components in your structure. Done. You have all of the normal links and alt-text options of course.

I almost forgot to mention – all of the new editor features are built on responsive design technology – from the ground up. With over 50% of emails being read on a mobile device it’s simply a must have. Don’t worry, the responsive stuff is all taken care of behind the scenes and there are some really nice previewing features so you can see exactly how your campaign will adapt for desktop, tablet and mobile, even for portrait and landscape orientation. Let’s put non-responsive design exactly where it belongs – in the past.

Enough for now. Just a few more days and you’ll be able to see for yourself. Look for the new email editor in the ‘create’ section of your account. There’s a really quick tour included just to get you familiar with how to use things like components, themes and content.

Meanwhile there are two other things you can do…

1. We’ll be holding an introduction webinar on Friday 3rd July at 10:00-11:00 BST. It’s a great chance to see the editor in action and ask any questions that you might have. You can find out more and register for the webinar at the link here.

2. Why not book a personal 1-1 demonstration. We’ll be happy to take you on a personal guided tour and discuss exactly how the new editor can enhance your current email design process. Contact us to arrange a convenient time.

So, next time you hear from me it will all be live, and the old ways of email editing will seem like an old shoe – comfortable, yes and served us well, but not what we’ll be stepping out in later tonight.
