Good email design – spotlight on Muddy Paws

3 minute read

Looking for some design inspiration? Look no further, as this post officially relaunches our good email design series. We’ve got a stash of interesting email campaigns to showcase, all put together using the online marketing platform, and we can’t wait to show you them. Have you designed an email campaign you’re particularly proud of? Drop us an email and you could feature on this very website.

The first showcase features this delightful email campaign put together by the team at Muddy Paws. Muddy Paws is an online shop dedicated to providing some great products for dogs, and the business owners’ love of what they do comes across really well in their branding. Their website tells the story of a family run business, with a special mention to their “barking mad Cocker Spaniel” named Oscar. As a fellow pet owner I can’t help but look at their website with a smile on my face – and that’s the point. Their business is aimed at dog owners who want to spoil their pet, so it really resonates with me, as I’m sure it will others!

This email campaign was sent to their subscribers back in September and the header image plays on the time of year appropriately. Schools are going back and they’ve managed to incorporate it into their email, while sticking to their branding. The design is clean and simple, and showcases their products nicely – with clear calls to action, pricing information and links to their website.

In terms of best practice, we always recommend having a good balance of text and images (due to spam filtering issues). This can be difficult to achieve in a template of this style, but I think the Muddy Paws team have got around the problem nicely. In addition to this the design cleverly places special offer text within enticing images, as opposed to copy. The information itself catches the reader’s eye, but not the attention of the spam filters. Finally, there are clear links to both their Facebook and Twitter page – perfect for those loyal customers who want to see all the latest news and products via these popular social media channels. Both of these pages are regularly updated with photos and responses to customer questions – making for a consistent social media presence.

As I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, I’m a big fan of this email. It’s a great example of good email design. Feeling inspired to design your own email masterpiece but need some help?
