It’s been expected for a while, but yesterday Facebook announced that they’ve hit the 500 million user mark.
“As of this morning, 500 million people all around the world are actively using Facebook to stay connected with their friends and the people around them.”
To put this number into perspective, it means about 8% of the world’s population is connected on Facebook, or perhaps more relevantly, over 25% of worldwide internet users. If Facebook were a country, it would the third largest in the world behind China and India. In the UK alone, there are 26 million Facebook users – nearly half of our population.
To celebrate this milestone Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, has launched Facebook Stories. Facebook Stories allows users to share their Facebook stories and read what other users have to say. Some of the stories are really interesting to read, including the story of the Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who during his time in power would go jogging with 100 of his Facebook fans.
Here at Sign-Up.to we think this is a great way of celebrating, and we have loved reading some of the stories. What do you think, do you have a story to tell? Or are you someone who is yet to join Facebook? Tell us what you think in the comments box below!
