Of the many eCommerce applications Shopify and Magento are two of the most widely used – that’s why you’ll find options for integration to both in your Sign-Up.to account. Here’s a quick guide to each system and how they connect with Sign-Up.to.
Shopify is a Canadian system, initially developed in 2004 as an eCommerce application for the founder’s online winter sports store. It’s now a publicly listed, multi-billion company used by a wide range of online retailers worldwide, including Amazon.com.
It’s a commercial application, available in three levels of functionality – basic, standard and advanced. In addition to standard eCommerce features like website building, order processing and discount codes, the higher versions also include professional reporting, gift codes and abandoned cart recovery.
Integrating Shopify with Sign-Up.to
Installing the Sign-up.to Shopify app automatically creates a folder and list specifically for the contact and other details returned from abandoned purchases. Captured details are updated automatically so that they are readily available to be used to drive your Sign-Up.to recovery campaigns.
The emails themselves are created in the normal way using the Sign-Up.to responsive editor. Depending on the complexity required relevant content can either be included by merging profile fields or through a more complex technique like Dynamic Content.
The scheduling of the recovery messages is controlled using a series of simple marketing automation rules. As soon as a new subscriber is added to the abandoned basket list a single or a series of recovery emails can be automatically triggered at appropriate time intervals.
Magento is available as a free Community version and also as commercially available Enterprise and Professional editions – with more features and technical support. Magento has many similar features to Shopify although with its open source nature many of the Magento features are added via third party plug-in applications.
Integrating Magento with Sign-Up.to
The Sign-Up.to integration with Magento is provided via MageCoders and is compatible with various generations of the Magento Community and Enterprise and Professional versions – there’s a small purchase fee. It’s 100% open source and is quick and easy to install.
Operation is similar to that of the Shopify integration. Magento mailing lists are created to capture the contact and other details which are then synchronised with Sign-Up.to as a 2-way connection. This can either be existing subscribers or existing Magento contacts.
This information can then be used to power email campaigns such as confirmations, delivery notices and abandoned basket recovery sequences. For abandoned basket recovery the contact and details of their basket is automatically added to the associated subscription list from where it can be used to send your recovery email sequence.
