UK Email Marketing Legislation Update

1 minute read

A newly passed amendment to the UK Companies Act means that any UK company has now, by law, to include the following information in their email footers:

  1. Your company name
  2. Your registration number and registered address (if registered)*
  3. Your place of registration (e.g. England and Wales)

*it is not sufficient to just include a vaild address, it must be your registered address.

There is more information available on The Register’s website

It’s easy to set this information up to be automatically included in the footers of emails you send through – simply go to the ‘Account’ tab, then the ‘Account Details’ sub-section and you can enter the details in the ‘Legal Compliance’ box.

There is some debate about whether the requirements apply to email marketing, but the current interpretation classes all emails as ‘business stationery’ and so subject to these rules. We think it’s better to be safe than sorry!
