Infographic - Where is everyone online?
The Internet is a big place, but where can you find your audience? We’ve collated the active user numbers for the major social networks, plus figures for mobile phone handsets and email accounts and put together a handy graphic to compare the relative reach of each channel.

Email and mobile usage still outweighs social networks by a long, long way – all of the social media network users added together is still less than half of the number of email users, which is less than half of the number of mobiles – so it’s important to make sure your online marketing uses a healthy mix of different channels to communicate with your audience!

Where did we get the numbers from?

My history teacher taught me to always state my sources – so here they are:

Earth population

Email accounts
We took the most recent published global user numbers from Gmail, Yahoo and Windows Live and then looked at the number of accounts on those services held in lists managed on the Sign-Up.to platform. By then taking the number of subscribers we hold who aren’t on those services and seeing what percentage of the total that makes we could extrapolate a reasonable estimate for the global number of email users.
