Here at Sign-Up.to, we specialise in providing a fantastic suite of online marketing tools. We love using the power of the Internet to achieve things that a decade ago seemed unimaginable. Once we work out how to do that, we’ll give a piece of it away for free so everyone can try it out for themselves.
So when we decide we need a better way of doing things around here, we turn to the Internet to see if anyone has a solution we can use. We’ve found some brilliant online applications so far. We use some well known giants such as Google Apps and Salesforce. They’re good, but I’m sure you’ve heard of them and know all about them if they float your boat. There are however a couple of up and coming tools which I’d like to highlight in this post as they’ve made a significant contribution to the way we work, and we love them.
The guys at Fog Creek Software have produced an outstanding online collaboration tool in the form of trello.com. In their own words:
“In one glance, Trello tells you what’s being worked on, who’s working on what, and where something is in a process.”
We use Trello for all sorts of things. It’s a lovely, visual job list that scales very well indeed while still being personable. On the serious side, we use it to manage our feature backlog, our QA processes and our deployments. We also use it to monitor kitchen supplies, film libraries, lunches, Christmas lists etc. I even use it for domestic chore management at home. It has great iPhone and Android apps. I am completely and utterly sold!
Workflowy is less visual and naturally collaborative than Trello, but better at capturing details. In their own words:
“WorkFlowy is the world’s best tool for taking notes and making lists.”
Taking notes and making lists may sound trivial, but the fact that Workflowy can be accessed from anywhere, combined with its powerful sharing tools, makes it a now vital part of our tool kit. I use Workflowy to take meeting notes and circulate action points. I also use it to plan work packages for product enhancements. Recently, I used it to note my findings and actions surrounding improving our Google PageSpeed scores. I can share any sub-sections of my lists in read-only or collaborative edit modes. I can access it from my phone, iPad or any workstation. It is incredibly useful.
